The Alchemy

Alchemy is a term that refers to both the exploration of nature by primitive methods and an early spiritual discipline of philosophy. Alchemy incorporated chemistry, metallurgy, physics, medicine, astrology, semiotics, mysticism, spiritualism, and art.

With a history of more than 2,500 years, alchemy was first practiced in Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Iran, India, and China.

Today, alchemy is of interest to science historians and philosophers due to its mystical, esoteric, and artistic aspects. It is one of the disciplines that laid the foundations of modern science. Many of the materials and processes used in the modern chemistry and metallurgy industries were discovered by ancient alchemists.

While alchemy has many facets, in modern popular culture it is associated with the attempt to change base metals into gold (due to the impact of alchemy/alchemist imageries in films and literature).

Creating the elixir of immortality, transforming human life, and achieving infinite wealth have been the goals of alchemy for centuries.

An incredible force and energy of life lie hidden in lotus seeds. In 1953, a group of Chinese scientists dug up some lotus seeds in an archaeological excavation done in a village of Dalian city in the state of Liaoning. These seeds, which were sent to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Garden of Plants in Beijing, bloomed again. The scientist dates these seeds to the period between 800-1200 AD.

The lotus, with its eloquent blooms and symbolizing the relationship between swamp, water, air, and sun, offers a important recipe for people living in a community without excuses.

Beyond the spiritual meaning of the Lotus, this flower has been both a source of food for humanity and one of the plants that traditional medicine has benefited from the most.
